Since October 2017 we have been adapting an old office building into emergency housing for the Women’s Rights Centre – an organisation helping women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The initiative has been supported by Credit Suisse, whose volunteering policy allows their staff to take a day off work to support various charity initiatives. As a result, thirty seven employees from Credit Suisse Warsaw joined in to assist with fit-out works of the Women’s Rights Centre.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Credit Suisse volunteers spent 4 days (12-13 October and 19-20 October) supporting the project. The 37 employees who got involved spent the total of 222 hours assisting in tasks such as:
- the installation of floorboards;
- the installation of partition walls;
- wall preparation and painting.

The volunteers helped move forward the adaptation of an old office building into emergency housing for women and children escaping domestic violence. We have co-run this Warsaw-based renovation project with the Women’s Right Centre since October 2017 and are hoping that first apartments will be ready by the end of this year.

VOLUNTEERS ABOUT THE EVENT
The volunteers filled in anonymous surveys which evaluated various aspects of the project, such as task organisation or tool availability. The project scored very high on the survey – it was rated 99.3% and included many positive comments, for example:
- A fantastic project and great organisation. I would happily do something like this again.
- The Centre and especially Habitat staff, do an amazing job helping people in need.
- Given its aim, the value of this project is incredible.
- We have learnt a lot and spent a very nice time. We gained new skills while helping others.
- The initiative was a great opportunity to discover such organisations, to learn about people in need and to discover that everybody can help.
