Dow volunteers helped renovate the Center for Blind and Partially Sighted Youth in Warsaw

On 27th June 2017, 11 volunteers from the Dow Chemical Company helped us in our new project: renovation of the roof in the Center for Blind and Partially Sighted Youth with Multiple Disabilities in Warsaw.

Since June 2017, we have been helping the Tęcza Association, which runs the Center for Blind and Partially Sighted Youth with Multiple Disabilities in Warsaw. The goal of the project is renovation of the roof and creation of better conditions for 55 young people who use the Center.

On 27th June 2017, we undertook the first works related to the renovation of the roof. We organized a corporate volunteering event during which we were joined by 11 employees of the Dow Chemical Company. They helped us impregnate the rafter framing in order to make it waterproof and fireproof.

Even though the work was challenging, it was very satisfying for the volunteers. At the end of the day, they filled in satisfaction surveys and gave positive feedback on all organizational aspects of the event. The proportion of “great” and “good” ratings amounted to as much as 98%. The volunteers left comments suggesting that they were impressed by the activities of both Habitat Poland and the Tęcza Association:

  • Marvelous experience! It is worth taking part in such events. The work was hard but I got a lot of joy out of it. The conditions created for the volunteers were good and the people we met at the Center showed us how valuable its work is.
  • It was my first experience with Habitat. It was organized in a very professional way and I am happy that I could participate.
  • Volunteering with Habitat is always interesting because the tasks are varied. Sometimes they are easier, sometimes they are more demanding, but every year there is something new.
  • My work today was really easy in comparison with the difficult and much-needed work of the Tęcza Association employees. It was obvious that the people I met there are very dedicated. I can’t praise them too much and don’t have words to show them my respect. I can just thank them.

The remaining works related to the renovation of the roof will be done by construction specialists.
